Story:

The movie takes off with a group of terrorists hijacking an airplane with 75passengers, which is from Chennai to Delhi, making an emergency landing at Tirupati. The hijackers demand for the release of their terrorist leader Yousuf Khan from prison. Home secretary Vishwanath (Prakash Raju), National Security adviser, along with National Security Guards officer Raveendra (Nagarjuna) comes down to Tirupati for handling the situation. Initially, the Government refuses commando operation and releases Yousuf Khan from prison, however Yousuf Khan gets killed on a road accident in the travel. How do Raveendra along with his team completes their mission and saves the passengers is the rest of the film to be watched on big-screens.

Performances:

Nagarjuna undoubtedly is the show stealer as a commando, with his charm and dignified looks. He played a distinct and a challenging role and has excelled in it.

Prakash Raj is as usual at his best in the limited role of Home Secretary. Poonam Kour as airhostess is good, Vijay as Colonel, Ravi as pilot are perfect, Harshavardhan as reporter is convincing, Pridhvi as film-actor could have done better. Brahmanandam as film-director is good.

Analysis:

Gaganam is a full fledged hijack drama which doesn’t deviate at all from the main plot at any instance. This is probably first of its kind thriller movie on Tollywood screen. There are no songs or so called commercial ingredients in Gaganam. Moreover it has a star hero in the lead role. The director sincerely tried his best to keep the audience glued to the screen with his screenplay.

Understandably, Gaganam starts off on a slow note as the director takes some time to get to the first plot point. Despite being path breaking in many ways, Radha Mohan stuck to basics of storytelling. He strictly followed the three act structure to narrate this story. He got everything right in each of the acts. However, the narration slipped down here and there as the director tried to sprinkle humor to provide some relief to the audience amidst the serious and engaging drama.

The comedy part is intelligently woven into the narrative. Especially, the satires on commercial heroes and their fans is fun to watch. There is ample entertainment in the film even when the proceedings get serious. Radha Mohan should’ve taken care about showcasing the emotions of hijacked passengers. They are not shown effectively.

Plus Points: Direction,Intervaltwist,Cinematography

Minus Points: Dialogue,Editing

Verdict: Gaganam is an interesting watch all through. Interval twist and the last hour is simply superb.People who appreciates distinct and unique cinema will surely love Gaganam. Watch it...
